I think this might be the nicest car I’ve ever driven. At least the nicest that I can think of. Supremely comfortable, good power, smooth, cool 5 cylinder warble and soft turbo noises in the background. Generally confidence inspiring and premium feeling. I really like it. It’s a bit of a boat, but not in a bad way. The brakes are amazing. It’s ability to soak up bumps is impressive. If I was a sane person, I would’ve bought it tonight. However, tomorrow I’m going to test drive the E34 I posted earlier. So it’ll be a fight between the practical part of my brain, and the part of my brain that misses old BMWs and wants a fun car.

I would want to make a bit less boaty, but not if that made it less comfy. But I’m mosrly an old person in a young persons body

You can definitely have both. My 850 was super comfy, and could blow the doors off most cars on the road. (when it was running)

My V70 was even comfier, and while not as quick, still pressed you back into your seat with the boost.

It seems wrong to say this, but if you really want to have a fast Volvo, ditch the awd and find a fwd one

I’ve been looking for a fwd one, but the only ones I’ve seen for sale are 2.4 non turbos.

The “when it was running” does concern me. Part of the draw of the e34 is the lovely simplicity of the M30.

I’m about 60/40 right now, in favour of the Volvo. I’ve gotta drive the e34 and see if it’s as good as he says it is.

At this point I might try splitting the difference and find an e39 540i touring. With a manual swap if I was really lucky...

I do appreciate it, but I’m missing a daily, or almost daily bimmer fix. I wish I had room/money for both, but four cars isn’t really feasible

I’m ok with the boaty feel, but I’m also a fan of the 70's maliase boats too.

Instead, I really want to swap one over to a V8, manual, and RWD. Itll take a lot of custom work, and I won’t gain a lot of power over the T5 (I’m thinking a slightly warmed over pushrod 5.0 for familiarity and affordability), but I figure that a solidly built and comfy V70 is a great starting point for something like that.
